Myrana Annette “Ann” McGinnis
ATMORE - Mrs. Myrana Annette “Ann” McGinnis, 46, vacated her earthly tabernacle on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 at her residence after an extended illness. She had worked as a customer service supervisor for Frontier Communications in Atmore 17 years before her illness. She was a member of Harris Street AOH Church of God in Atmore, where she was on the Mother’s Board, served as director of youth department and supervisor of the kitchen committee. She was a member of Leadership Atmore, the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors for the Atmore YMCA. She was a 1979 graduate of Escambia County High School and a 1983 graduate of Troy State University.
Her father, James Askew, and her grandparents, Calvin and Dannie Grissett and James and Bessie Askew, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her husband, Minister Charles McGinnis; her mother, Helen J. Askew of Atmore; five daughters, Jameshia Askew of Montgomery, Katara Benson of Monroeville, Kiara McGinnis of Tuscaloosa and Corleia and Jazmine McGinnis, both of Atmore; two sisters, Yolanda (Jerome) Webster and Rita Bullard of Atmore.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. at the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Bishop Quillas Mitchell officiating and Pastor Willie Hawthorne, most gracious host. Inhumation followed in Stallworth cemetery. Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directed the services.
Emma Mae “Bee” Montgomery
ATMORE - Mrs. Emma Mae “Bee” Montgomery, 81, of Atmore died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at Atmore Nursing Care Center. She had worked as a laborer at Flowerwood Nursery in Loxley and as a cafeteria worker at the Freemanville School. She attended school in Little River and at Pleasant Hill School in Atmore. She was a member of God’s Temple of Deliverance where she was the “mother” of the church.
Her two daughters, Vernell Montgomery and Jettie Thomas; one son, Jake Wilson; her husband, Willie Frank Montgomery; her parents, Mollie (John) Browder and Artis (Lillian) Tate Sr. and one brother, Fred English, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, eight daughters, Velma Redmond, Barbara Gulley, Verdell Malone, Paulette Askew and Rosalind Moore, all of Atmore, Joyce Jackson of Memphis Tenn., Merenda Gordon of Plainfield, N.J. and Sheila Williams of Mobile; four sons, Otis Wilson of Radcliff, Ky., Michael Montgomery of Gadsden and Clifford and Carlos Montgomery, both of Atmore; four sisters, Betty Dailey of Atmore, Rose Tate of Bronx, N.Y., Annie Washington of Mobile and Mary Alice Tate of Sacramento, Calif.; five brothers, Artis Tate Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., Robert Tate, Willie G. Tate and Jack Tate of Mobile and James Tate of Orangeburg, S.C.
Funeral services will held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the God’s Temple of Deliverance Church in Atmore with Bishop W.C. Howard officiating. Retirement of her remains will be in Fairview cemetery.
Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore will be in charge of directing the services.
Clarence “JJ” Shiver
WALNUT HILL, Fla. - Mr. Clarence “JJ” Shiver, 76, of Walnut Hill, Fla. went to be with the Lord on Feb. 11, 2008. JJ had 23 years of active military duty. He loved to fish and shared his love to fish with his great grandchildren. His daughter, Karen Finger; parents, John Wesley and Ferby Melissa Jones Shiver; brothers and sisters, Nelli Mae, Rebecca, Jacob, Ester Lee, Elvie, John Jr., Sammy, Paul, Billy and Raymond preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife Elsie Shiver; two sons, Jerry (Anita) Macks and Ray Macks; one sister, Clara Campbell; grandchildren, Felicia (Alex) Amerson, Tiffany (Ivan) Snyder, Kim Broxson, Joshua Macks and Natassia Macks; great grandchildren, Bill Gilly, Dylan David and Alexis Amerson, Kota, Austin and Shyanne Snyder, Matt, Dustin and Karen Broxson and Hunter, Maddox and Ciara Macks; special friends, Kevin (Kathy) Faircloth and loyal pet companion “Chico.”
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at the Walnut Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Ted Bridges officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. service time. Burial will follow in the Walnut Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be, Bill Gilly, Kevin Faircloth, David Amerson, Kota Snyder, Joshua Macks and William Gilly.
Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
