Fred’s customers can still shop ‘til they drop at the store, but will have to go elsewhere for their prescription drugs, according to senior vice president of marketing Tommy Burkley.
The drugstore closed on Monday, according to Burkley, and all prescriptions have been transferred to Walgreens.
Burkley said Fred’s chose to sell to Walgreens because of the inability to bring in a profit.
Although area residents will not be able to fill their prescriptions at Fred’s, they will still have plenty of merchandise to choose from, according to the Web site, www.fredsinc.com.
Fred’s offers both a hardlines and softlines division, which includes housewares, greeting cards, school supplies, beauty care, food and beverage items, pet needs, electronics, toys, apparel, window and bath products and footwear.
Atmore’s Fred’s is located at 109 Lindberg Ave.
