A 17-year-old Atmore girl was injured Monday afternoon when the Ford F-150 she was driving overturned after colliding with a sports car near Green Acres Road.
Leandra Corey was driving east on Robinsonville Road when she passed a vehicle and T-boned a sports car driven by Chad Alverson, who was attempting to turn on to Green Acres, according to witnesses. Upon impact, Corey's truck rolled over three times and Alverson's car was tossed nearly 100 feet up the road, resting on the opposite side of the roadway.
According to witnesses, Corey was driving at a high-rate of speed at the time of the accident. Officers could neither confirm or rule out that high-rate of speed was involved.
Atmore Ambulance transported both drivers to Atmore Community Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Several officers with the Atmore Police Department, the Atmore Fire Department and deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
According to an officer on the scene, Corey was wearing her seatbelt. It is unknown if Alverson was wearing his seatbelt.
David’s Paint &Body was dispatched to tow both vehicles.
The accident is still under investigation.
