The past few weeks have been quite busy for the staff at the Advance.
I personally have been to several different things for work and have had good times at all of them!
Last Thursday I attended the Northview High School Future Farmers of America’s (FFA) 13th annual Food for America Program and I must say that I have never seen so many animals in my lifetime.
I saw so many cows, horses, including miniature ones, chickens and even pigs at the event. There were also many organizations on hand to teach elementary school aged children the importance of agriculture. Even though the event was held for elementary school kids, I learned a bit myself and was also very entertained.
Another event I attended during the weekend was a rodeo at Poarch, where I think I met a future bull riding champ. He was 7 years old and dressed up like a mighty cowboy. He was the cutest thing I had ever seen. Unfortunately I had to leave the rodeo before the youngster showed off his bull riding skills, but I heard stories of his greatness while I was there.
Saturday night I could be found at Grace Fellowship watching the Greater Escambia Council for the Arts present “Into the Woods.”
I have a feeling at least one of the young GECA members will one day grow up and be a famous Broadway performer!
I have now been impressed with both GECA plays that I have seen and hope to watch another one very soon!
This week there are a couple of things I have looked forward to attending, but I especially am excited about going to the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours at the Royal Oaks Bed &Breakfast. This event is going to be held tomorrow from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
I personally look forward to visiting the Royal Oaks Bed &Breakfast because I have never been in there, but every time I pass the establishment I can’t help but think how adorable and friendly it looks. I’ve often times just wanted to look around, but have never had a reason to spend the night there. Now I can go look around and socialize at the same time.
There is also going to be a Young Life rummage sale this weekend that I think I would enjoy, but I am going to be in Fairhope at a wedding. However I think everyone who is in town should attend the rummage sale and support Young Life because the organization is a great thing for area teens.
According to Young Life leaders, the money made at the rummage sale will go toward sending area teens to Young Life camp, which seems like a great experience for them.
