Winston Steadham
FLOMATON - Mr. Winston Steadham, 65, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Brewton.
Mr. Steadham was a native of Chumuckla, Fla. and a resident of Flomaton for the past 43 years. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman loved to hunt, fish and loved livestock. He was a brick mason for 45 years where he was dedicated to excellence.
His parents, Bub and Lucile Steadham and a brother Clyde Steadham preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 43 years, Linda Fay Steadham of Flomaton; three daughters, Audrey Killam (Dewayne) of Flomaton, Angela Wright (Guy) of Flomaton and Amanda Steadham of Flomaton; two brothers, Charles Steadham (Myra Jean) of Atmore and Carl Steadham (Flo) of Bay Minette; six sisters, Virginia McKelvin of Jay, Barbara Jean Levins (Hubert) of Cantonment, Annie Ruth Kelley (Tink), Dorothy Owens (Tommy) of Jay, Lillian Ward (Roy) of Jay and Amelia Steadham of Jay; three grandchildren, Joshua Northrop of Flomaton, Aubrey Madison Wright of Flomaton and Jacob Wright of Flomaton; a mother-in-law, Eunice Lambeth of Flomaton and many nieces, nephews and longtime family friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. J.D. Renfroe and the Rev. Leo Kent officiating. Visitation was held Monday, April 21, 2008 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Tracy Steadham, Stacey Steadham, Eric Steadham, Dale Steadham, Terry Kelly and Jeff Kelly. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Cotton, Jim Settle, Tommy Abrams, Darrell Fore, Edmond Knowles, Joe Jones, Herman Armstrong, Carl Gandy, Jr. Blackmon and Billy Blackmon.
Carrie Moye Marshall
ATMORE - Carrie Moye Marshall was born on Oct. 4, 1917 to the late Elijah Smith and Annie Simmons. Carrie, more commonly referred to as “Baby,” was raised by her grandmother, Francis Watson of North Atmore. Carrie attended the public schools in Atmore. At an early age, she united with Mt. Gillead Baptist Church where she remained a lifelong member. At Mt. Gillead, she was a member of the missionary ministry and attended to the needs of her church family and community. One of her greatest joys was attending the Alabama State Baptist Convention where she represented her church faithfully.
A loving and devoted wife and mother, sister and friend, family were very important part of Carrie’s life. Carrie was preceded in death by husbands, Ed Moye Sr. and Mark Marshall and her son Ed Moye Jr. She had a joyous and loving relationship with her daughters Elaine Miller and Hertel Boyd and a special relationship with her son-in-law Schaffer Minor. Also precious to Carrie was her sister Mary Perry who resides in Detroit, Mich.
When health challenges arose Carrie relocated to New York to be with her children. There Carrie was blessed to meet many lovely friends including, Ms. Marie Wilson, Ms. Dorothy Baston, Ms. Vera Fields, Ms. Alice Graham and so many in the 1695 Madison Avenue Family and her beloved Cannon Baptist Church family.
Carrie never lost touch with her the family and friends that she grew up with and visited regularly in Atmore. She often spoke with love of Ms. Ella Knight, Ms. Cora Matthews, the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Teddy McNeil, Ms. Faye George and a devoted cousin Annie Helen Johnson among so many others.
Carrie leaves to celebrate her 90 years of love, her daughters, Elaine and Hertel (Schaffer), both of New York; five grandchildren, Shelton (Simone) of Ewing, N.J., Samuel of Mobile, Sean (Elise) of Slickersville, N.J., Angel (LaVaughn) of Detroit, Mich. and Tasha (Michael) of Jamaica, N.Y. as well as 10 great grandchildren, Sean, Marquis, Travis, Darielle, Maiya, Aaron, Brittany, Lavon, Jordan and Samuel Jr.; sister, Mary Perry of Detroit, Mich.; nieces, Ramona Dudley and Janice McCants; nephews, Joseph and Wilson Dudley and two goddaughters, Rachel Reeves and Essie Smith.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008 with the Rev. Robert Davis, pastor. Pallbearers and flower bearers were family and friends.

Emma Gladys Freeman Baker
ATMORE - Emma Gladys Freeman Baker, 94, died Thursday, April 16, 2008 in Daphne. Mrs. Baker was born on Jan. 8, 1914 to the late Hillary and Lillian Estelle McInvale Freeman in Starlington and spent most of her life in Atmore.
Her husband, Stephen Houston Baker; a daughter, Frances Baker and a grandson, Jeff Baker, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Baker is survived by two sons, Houston O’Neil Baker (Dorothy) of Daphne and Wilmer Earl Baker (Mary Louise) of Summerdale; two daughters, Betty Wilmot (Jim) of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Cheryl Vorse (Jim) of Daphne; one brother, Newton Freeman of Galveston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Mike Baker (Robin) of Marietta, Ga., Steve Wilmot (Lisa) of Blackstone, Va., Cathy Brown (Dale) of Oklahoma City, Okla., John Baker (Mary) of Spanish Fort, Melanie Baker Harris (Charles) of Summerdale Paul Baker (Kymberly) of Summerdale, Christopher Vorse (Kristina) of Kathleen, Ga. and Brian Vorse (Tiffany) of Charleston, S.C.; 12 grandchildren, Morgan Wilmot, Brittany Allday-Baker, Chase Meecham-Baker, David Baker, Taylor Baker, Sara Baker, Jacob Brown, Blythe Baker, Christian Kitsos-Harris, Austin Vorse, Tanner Vorse and Zachary Harris.
Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008 in Oak Hill cemetery with Dr. Wil Baker officiating.

Eunice Victoria Johnson
ATMORE - Mrs. Eunice Victoria Johnson, 80, of Atmore died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Atmore Community Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Escambia County and attended school at the Escambia County Training School. She was a member of Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church and had worked with the Area Agency on Aging as Meals on Wheels van driver.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, five daughters, Olga L. Paige of Atmore, Linda (Reginald) Johnson, Nannette (R. McGhee) Thomas, Bridgette F. McClaney and Tenecha (Allen) Johnson, all of Montgomery; eight sons, Cleveland J. (Joyce) Lamar Jr., Adrian Johnson, Cassie L. Johnson, Vince A. Johnson and Shen D. (Kimberly) Johnson, all of Atmore, George A. Johnson of Albany, N.Y., Rafe Terry Lee Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa. and Harold P. Johnson of Common Stock, N.Y.; three sisters, Gladys Brown of Colorado Springs, Co., Alfreda Lewis of Pensacola, Fla. and Elanora Ankum-Williams of Cedar Rapids, La.; one brother, Dan York of Mobile; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Public viewing was held from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Joe L. Hayes, pastor, officiating. Interment was held in Fairview cemetery in Atmore with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.
Larry Howard
ATMORE - Mr. Larry Howard, 51, of Atmore died Saturday, April 20, 2008 at his residence as a result of a stabbing.
Mr. Howard was a native of Escambia County and had lived in Flint, Mich. for many years. He attended the Central High School in Flint. He was an assembly laborer with Standard Furniture in Bay Minette and had worked for General Motors in flint, Mich.
He leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, La’Toya Howard of New Orleans, La.; four sons, Larry Howard Jr. of Flint, Mich., LaTry Howard of Arizona, Ordis Gray of New Orleans, La. and Delangio Welch of Flint, Mich.; one sister, Linda Shapel Howard of Flint, Mich.; one brother, Marrell (Linda) Howard of Milwaukee, Wis. and three grandchildren.
Public viewing was held from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Pleasant ill Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Thelma Lawson, officiating and the Rev. Freddie Banks, gracious host, pastor, officiating. Interment followed in the Fairview cemetery in Atmore with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.
Merrill I. Hanks
ATMORE - Merrill I. Hanks, 89, of Atmore died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in Atmore.
He was a retired CEO with Vanity Fair Mills, born in Goodway on June 21, 1918 to the late Ira and Allie Bass Hanks, was also a WWII Army Veteran.
His wife, Grace M. Hanks; two sisters, Agnes Lambert and Willie Mae Hayes, preceded her in death.
Survivors are numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral home Chapel with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill cemetery.
Family received friends from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Willie Mae Stuckey Compton
BYRNEVILLE, Fla. - Mrs. Willie Mae Stuckey Compton, 81, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in Century, Fla.
Mrs. Compton was a native of Century, Fla., a former resident of Mobile and New Orleans, La. and a resident of Byrneville, Fla. since 1980. She attended the Byrneville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include, two brothers, Byron Stuckey and Oria Stuckey, both of Byrneville, Fla.; two sisters, Esther Jones of Byrneville, Fla. and Viola Stapleton of Theodore.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Bill Stuckey, Buster Townson, John Townson, Herman Armstrong, Charlie Brown and Arnold Weaver.
Jolene Marie Hiebert
CENTURY, Fla. - Jolene Marie Hiebert, 22, of Century, Fla. died April 13, 2008 in New Orleans, La.
She was a homemaker born in Milton, Fla. on April 24, 1985 to Christopher E. Hiebert a Jamie Browder White.
Survivors include, her father, Christopher E. Hiebert of Atmore; her mother, Jamie White of Century, Fla.; one son, Nathan James Rolin of Century, Fla.; one brother, Corum Flint Hiebert of Texas and one sister, Kristen Watts of Atmore.
Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 in Byrneville United Methodist Church.
