Hospital Auxiliary to host jewelry sale
The Atmore Community Hospital Auxiliary will have a jewelry sale by Phantasia’s May 1-2 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and May 3 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Mayson Auditorium. Jewelry is $5.
Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
Smith to host voter registration drive
Tray Smith will be hosting a voter registration drive for his Eagle Scout Service Project during Saturday’s Mayfest held at Tom Byrne Park.
Residents of both Escambia County Alabama and Escambia County Florida who will turn 18 at least 10 days before the general election in November are eligible to register.
The voter registration drive will be open all day. Those who wish to register must bring their Social Security card and their driver’s license.
ECHS boosters host “draw down”
The Escambia County High School athletic boosters are selling $100 “draw down” tickets for the chance to win $5,000.
The names of the people drawn on the first ticket, every 10th ticket and the 240th ticket will each win their $100 ticket money back.
The $100 also pays for two people to eat during the “draw down,” which will be held at 7 p.m. on May 3 at the Whistle Stop Grill.
To purchase a ticket, call any booster member.
Nokomis F.D. to host fundraiser on May 3
Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a Boston Butt Roast Fundraiser Sale on May 3. Tickets are being sold in advance or you can place an order by calling Wayne Hubbard at 368-5800, Jessie Fisher at 446-3041 or Thelma Albert at 368-8885. All orders will need to be picked up by 2 p.m. on May 3 at the fire station located at 163 James Road. The cost is $25.

Tabernacle honors one year of worship
Empowerment Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C will hold their first year church anniversary beginning at 7 p.m. April 30 through May 3 and May 4 at 3 p.m. The theme will be “We come this far by Faith.”

Flea market to hold open car show
There will be an open car show on May 3 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Atmore Flea Market on Hwy. 21 South. There is no pre-registration and the charge is $10 per car or motorcycle. Open to all vehicles, antique or not. Motorcycles, antique cars, street rods and muscle cars are welcome. The event is sponsored by the Atmore Flea Market and hosted by the South AL Region of AACA.

The McCullough Friendship Club luncheon will be held at the Stagecoach Cafe in Stockton on May 3 at 11 a.m.
Reading workshop May 3 in Century
Learn to Read of Northwest Florida, Inc., a non-profit adult literacy organization in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties is conducting a workshop to train volunteer tutors to reach adults to read and write.
The workshop will be held on May 3 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Century Hospital Medical Center, 7600 Mayo Street, Century (corner of Mayo and Church Streets).

Hospital Auxiliary offers scholarships
The Hospital Auxiliary is offering two scholarships this year. The scholarships are offered to anyone interested in working in any medical field. Those interested can be just finishing high school, already working in a medical field and wanting to further their education or just planning on going to school. Applications are available in all area high school counseling offices and the gift shop at Atmore Community Hospital.
Applications need to be turned in to the gift shop at the hospital by May 9.
First Assembly will host women’s fair
Make plans now to attend the Women’s Health &Wellness Fair at Atmore First Assembly, May 10 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The morning will include free blood sugar and cholesterol testing for participants that fast. Food will be provided after the test. Also there will be free blood pressure evaluation, free nutritional assessment and immunization screening. While testing is being done, ladies can hear about healthy eating and can receive a fitness assessment.
Besides the health screening, the day will include a free lunch and a chance to hear three general sessions followed by six concurrent sessions that covers all age groups. Ladies, you might want to hear about health issues or you might want to choose topics to help your children or grandchildren.

McCullough Volunteer Fire Department will holds its annual meeting May 10 for the election of officers.

Trinity Episcopal hosts fun day
Trinity Episcopal Church will be holding a fun-filled day of events, including an antique appraisal, silent auction and a boxed lunch sale on May 10 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Trinity's extensive Outreach Program. The big day is being conducted with a lot of help from First National Bank and Trust and also Masland Carpets, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Endowment Committee and Swift's Supply.
Free park event slated for May 10
In honor of Mental Health Month, Catholic Charities’ Pensacola Region will hold a “A Day in the Park.”
This event is free and open to the public. The event will take place May 10 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in downtown Pensacola’s Seville Square.
Admission is absolutely FREE for all guests! Those in attendance can enjoy a free chair massage, explore gym memberships, or physical fitness classes such as yoga and jazzercise, take a dance class and more! There will be a small silent auction for gift baskets filled with dance lessons, a personal trainer, gym memberships, massages, spa days, health foods and, of course, much more!
All proceeds will assist those in the community without insurance by allowing them to receive mental health services on a sliding fee scale. So, why not take the time to relax and enjoy yourself and contribute to your community? This event is organized by Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida’s Counseling Program.

Cheer &Dance Power registration
Atmore All-Star Cheer and Dance Power registration is being held for boys and girls ages 3 and up for all star cheer classes, lyrical ballet and hip hop dance class. An adult dance class is also available. Registration will be held every Monday and Wednesday of the month of April, May and ending June 4th at 114 W. Ridgeley Street across from County Charms from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. The cost of registration is $25. Spaces are limited. New classes begin May 12th.

FBC Bratt to host softball tournament
The First Baptist Church of Bratt will be holding a Co-ed Softball Tournament at Bradberry Ballpark in Walnut Hill on May 31st. $200 entry fee per team. Three women minimum on the field at all times. Proceeds will go to the youth group's summer camp expenses.

Art, antique festival slated for June 7
Come to the Country for the First Annual Southwest Alabama Antique and Art Fair in Uriah, June 7 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Rain date will be June 14th. Artists from all over Southwest Alabama and Northwest Florida will be there. Original Fine Art, Original Folk Art, Original Pottery, Hand Crafted Quilts and Antiques. There will be Bar B Q plates and sandwiches, a bake sale, auction, classic cars and music. Proceeds will be used to build a memorial for men from South Monroe County who gave their lives in WWII.

Temple Christian holding registration
Temple Christian Academy is now accepting enrollment in 4-year-old Kindergarten through 12th grade for the 2008-09 school year.
Enrollment for each class will remain open until that class fills; however, registration for each class will be on a first come, first serve basis. Students enrolling for 4-year-old Kindergarten through first grade must be appropriate age to enter that grade by Sept. 1 to be admitted to that class.

Friday Night Dances at the VFW, cost $5
Friday Night Dances at the VFW are open to the general public for a donation of $5 per participant. Country and soft rock music for dancing is provided by the VFW’s Freedom Band. If you like good, clean, safe fun, the VFW Post located at 206 W. Ashley St. is the place to be on Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
Wawbeek VFD monthly yard sale
Wawbeek Volunteer Fire Department’s monthly yard sale will be held the first Saturday of each month 8 a.m. until. Money goes to purchase Jaws of Life. Reasonable donations accepted. Watch for signs.
Legion Auxiliary looking for members
