Nearly four months following the death of her beloved husband, Merrill, longtime Atmore business owner Patricia “Pat” Still passed away peacefully Friday morning at her home in McCullough.
Still, owner of Atmore Ambulance for more than 30 years, succumbed to a rare form of gallbladder cancer at around 11:15 a.m. with family and friends at her bedside. She was 70 years old.
The Stills were married for 52 years. Benner said since Merrill’s untimely death on Jan. 4 following a brief illness, her sister has missed her husband deeply. Their lives began with each other as a love story and ended the same, in love.
Benner said that her sister had not had her eyes open much the last few days. That changed shortly before she passed away.
Still was born and raised in Atmore. She owned Atmore Ambulance since 1975 and Merrill purchased Atmore Appliance, formerly Western Auto, in 1979. They have lived in their Still Farm Road home for 48 years.
As for Still’s businesses, they will continue to operate as usual, according to Benner.
Still is survived by her two sons, Terry and Jon; brothers, Lawrence B. King and Franklin D. King; Benner; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at McCullough Christian Center with the Rev. Cornelius Phillips officiating. Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday evening.
