Advance political forum cancelled
The political forum sponsored by the Atmore Advance featuring candidates vying for the District 4 county commission seat scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. has been cancelled.
Originally, three out of the four candidates on the June 6 primary ballot agreed to participate in the forum, which was intended to give voters the opportunity to hear each candidates’ position on local issues.
Last week, incumbent William Brown and challenger Brandon Smith, who are both running on the Democratic ticket, cancelled after first agreeing to participate. Republican candidate and former commissioner James “J.R.” Hall, who had shown interest initially, declined his invitation.
Bonner staffer in Atmore Thursday
A staff member from the office of U.S. Representative Jo Bonner (R-Ala.) will be available at Atmore City Hall between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Thursday and at Flomaton City Hall at 11 a.m.
New Pleasant Hill church hosts revival
New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church will be hosting a spring revival May 12-16 at 7 p.m. nightly.
Evangelist for the week will be the Rev. A.T. Days, retired pastor of Gaines AME.
Retired teachers, BOE reception today
The Escambia County Board of Education and the Escambia County Teacher’s Association will hold a reception for educators and support personnel retiring as of the closing dates of their work sessions for the year. The reception will be held at the Flomaton High School Library at 4 p.m. on May 14. School personnel, family and friends are welcome attend.
Frontier to hold Relay fundraiser
A fundraiser golf tournament for Relay For Life hosted by Frontier is scheduled for May 16 at the Atmore Country Club.
Frontier is hoping for the support of area businesses by sponsoring a team or a hole for the event.
Tournament rates are $75 per person ($300 per four-person team) and hole sponsorship is $50. Donations for door prizes are also requested.

Hastings family to hold reunion May 17
A Hastings family reunion will be held May 17 at the George Pervy Thames Senior Citizen’s Building located in Robertsdale.
The reunion will start at 9 a.m. and will last until. It is asked of each family to bring covered dishes of food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Pastor America to be honored by church
Second Chance Faith Miracle Holiness Church will hold its seventh year anniversary for the pastor and overseer Mary America. The event will be held May 12-16 7:30 p.m. nightly and will climax May 18 at 3 p.m.
Holiness church to host revival services
The Flomaton Pentecostal Holiness Church will be having revival services May 18-21. Sunday worship service begins at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday night services begin at 7 p.m. The Rev. Joe and Betty Hamby of Sugarland, Texas will be the evangelists. Pastor Homer Stewart and the church family extends a special invitation to the public to attend all of the services.
ECHS class of ‘98 to host reunion
Escambia County High School Class of 1998 will hold a reunion meeting at Weatherford’s Steak House (formally known as Best Western Restaurant) on June 1 at 5 p.m. There will be a charge of $40 per person and this will include dinner and building fee, deadline will be May 19th. Historical Society to meet May 19
The next meeting of the Atmore Historical Society is May 19 at 6 p.m. in the Peavy-Webb Building in Heritage Park. President Byard Swift invites everyone to attend. Program to be announced.
Cancer symposium to be held May 22
The Escambia County Cancer Education Symposium will be held at Little Escambia Church in Flomaton May 22 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served.
Poll workshops to be held on June 3
The upcoming Primary Election will be held on June 3rd. Poll workers, appointed by the Judge of Probate, are required by law to attend Poll Worker workshops. These workshops are scheduled for May 20 and will be conducted by Howell Hawthorne, Custodian of Elections. The times and locations are listed below.
Full Gospel church to host singing
Full Gospel Community Church in Dixonville on Hwy. 87, right past the lottery store on Ganey Ford Road, will have their first fourth Friday of the month singing on May 23.

Bay Springs to hold singing on May 24
Bay Springs Full Gospel Church will host their fourth Saturday night singing on May 24th at 6 p.m. featuring Muscogee Boys. Local talent is welcome.
Daniel family to meet May 24
The annual family reunion of the descendants of Thomas Jefferson Daniel and Christiana Stabler Daniel will be held May 24 at Claude D. Kelley State Park. All family members are reminded to bring an expensive item for a door prize to be given away. A pot luck luncheon will be served at noon. We look forward to seeing you there!
Eliska church to host gospel singing
The Eliska Holiness Church will hold a gospel singing at 6 p.m. May 24. Everyone is invited to attend. All singers and musicians are welcome to participate. Refreshments will be served.

Greater Mt. Triumph to hold VBS in May
Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. May 26-30.
The theme this year will be “Adventures in Faith.”
FBC Bratt to host softball tournament
The First Baptist Church of Bratt will be holding a Co-ed Softball Tournament at Bradberry Ballpark in Walnut Hill on May 31. $200 entry fee per team. Three women minimum on the field at all times. Proceeds will go to the youth group's summer camp expenses.

Brooks Memorial to host VBS in June
Brooks Memorial Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School from June 2-6 beginning at 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. ages 4 yrs. through 6th grade. The theme will be “Outrigger Island.”
The Vacation Bible School Kickoff Parade will be May 24 at 10 a.m. 904 E. McRae Street.
Art, antique festival slated for June 7
Come to the country for the First Annual Southwest Alabama Antique and Art Fair in Uriah, June 7 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Rain date will be June 14th.
