Beautiful babies and good music

Saturday was a fun and busy day for the Atmore community.
I awoke early after visiting with some friends Friday night. It was my best friend, Anna’s, birthday. We had sushi and I’ve got to say, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I had anticipated. We then went to watch the second “Chronicles of Narnia” movie, which was amazing.
I woke up Saturday after having only five hours of sleep because of my trip to Pensacola the night before, but I had no trouble staying awake with all the activities and events going on in Atmore.
The first thing I attended was at Trinity Episcopal Church. I only stayed for a few minutes, but from what I could tell, guest speaker Jan Phillips was phenomenal. She had the women in attendance both laughing and crying. If I could have, I would’ve stayed all morning for the Women of Trinity sponsored seminar, “Divining the Body: A Pilgrimage Through the Sacred Self” led by Phillips.
Hopefully I will be able to attend the next Phillips event to be held at David’s Catfish House tomorrow. This seminar is entitled “It Pays to be Good” and it is from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost is $25 per person and I assure you, from the few minutes I was at Trinity on Saturday, it’s worth it. Plus the $25 includes lunch.

The next event I attended was also a Chamber event. The Beautiful Baby Contest, which was originally scheduled for Mayfest, was held on Saturday and there were some extremely cute and cuddly babies there!
I love little ones and there were a lot at Tom Byrne Park for the Beautiful Baby Contest! There were winners in every category and I am so happy I was not a judge because I wouldn’t have been able to narrow the field. To me all babies are cute and sweet!
The third and final event I attended was the Creek Music Festival, held at the Creek Casino.
Although it was a little bit hot outside, the event was a blast. I heard country music sensation Lorrie Morgan sing her heart out and when the Four Tops got on stage I wanted to dance around, groovin’ to the music!
When I spoke with Lorrie Morgan last week via telephone, I asked her if she’d ever been to or even heard of Atmore. Her answer was an honest, “No,” but she did say she was looking forward to visiting us here in the small town.
I think Atmore area residents gave all the stars a warm welcome on Saturday during the Creek Music Festival.
Other than the great music at the event, there were many vendors that had tons of refreshments and drinks.
Hopefully I’ll be around Atmore the next time the Casino hosts a music festival because it was truly a blast!
