Shopping around for dad
By Adrienne McKenzie
It’s that time of year again when giving revolves around dad.
Father’s Day is June 15 and if you haven’t gotten your dad’s present, it may be time to start looking.
My dad is easy to buy for because there are tons of things that he likes. He loves Alabama football, so anything that involves the University of Alabama is perfect for him. And he just recently began riding a motorcycle, so something for his bike would be a great idea for his Father’s Day gift.
But some dads are probably not that easy to purchase things for.
If you are like me, a gift that has become an every year thing for dad is a tie or button-up shirt. I’m going to try to stay clear from those gifts and get my dad something he could really enjoy this year.
One great idea Atmore area residents could go with for Father’s Day is a gift certificate to one of the many great restaurants in town. And if the restaurant does not provide gift certificates, no problem, just take dad out to dinner.
There are some great ideas at www.gifts.com to choose from for dad this Father’s Day.
There are things on the Web site for every type of dad.
For fathers who enjoy grilling out for the entire family, there are personalized barbeque platters that have catchy sayings. One of the platters reads, ‘Grilled by dad. Burnt is just another flavor. Rare treats, well done!’
And for those dads who enjoy grilling, there is another gift idea at www.gifts.com for the outdoor cooking lovers who also enjoys sports.
This gift is a barbecue grill cover that features dad’s favorite team and it also protects his grill.
Another great gift idea, for dad or anyone, is an XM Satellite radio. The Delphi MyFi is on-the-go. It can be taken to work, the gym, the car or at home. This is an awesome gift idea!
The Web site is a great place to start looking for your dad’s Father’s Day present. But remember, the best gifts come from the heart.
For children who are too young to purchase their dad a Father’s Day gifts, some cute ideas are their drawings, their handprints or footprints on a piece of construction paper or a card they’ve made especially for their dad.
These ideas can be put in a frame and shown off at work or in a home office.
Any way you look at it, Father’s Day is a day about recognizing your father for all he’s done in your life. So, the least you can do is put a nice card in the mail and give him a phone call on June 15 to let him know you are thinking about him on his special day!
