Pierce Robinson of Atmore is proof that hard work pays off.
Robinson, 18, has been named a National Merit Scholar.
Robinson graduated from the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science in Mobile on June 7. He excelled academically, proving himself to be one of the top scholars in the nation when he was named a National Merit Scholar.
Out of the Top 50,000 academically enhanced high school students that are honored, 16,000 are taken to the next step as a Semifinalist based on their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Of the Semifinalists who are chosen, Finalists are then chosen.
According to Robinson, becoming a National Merit Scholar is a way to receive great scholarships to college.
Robinson said he was excited to learn he had been chosen as a Finalist.
Robinson will start college at The University of Alabama in the fall, where he will be one of 40 incoming freshmen invited to join the Computer-Based Honors Program.
Robinson said he is “very much” excited about attending the University where he will major in chemical engineering, but plans to go into medicine.
Robinson is the son of Karl and Alison Robinson of Atmore. He is the brother of Justin Robinson, 22, who recently graduated in chemical engineering from Auburn University.
