Golfers beware: Any cheating at this tournament might earn you some time in the slammer.
The second annual Holman Correctional Facility Employee Support Fund Golf Tournament will tee off at 9 a.m. on June 27 at the Atmore Country Club.
The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Employee Support Fund began after Hurricane Ivan swept through the state.
Its purpose is to benefit employees of the ADOC if they suffer a loss that might not be covered by insurance such as damage to a home during a hurricane.
Capt. David Craft, a correctional officer for W.C. Holman Correctional Facility, said the reason for starting the fund came about because several employees at Holman received damage to their homes.
The tournament for the Holman ADOC Employee Support Fund will be a four-person scramble and the individual registration fee is $60.
The fee includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, practice greens, refreshments and tournament prizes.
Several sponsors have signed onto the tournament and have sponsored holes or teams.
Capt. Craft said local businesses and businesses that Holman regularly deals with are the majority of the sponsors.
He added that there are fees to be a sponsor ranging from gold to bronze.
Craft said eight teams have entered the tournament as of June 20.
He also said that trophies will be awarded as well as cash prizes to first, second and third place.
Contests such as longest drive and closest to the pin will also be held with prizes to be awarded.
