Lee enjoys fishing, Poarch SAIL Center

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 60-year-old Savannah Lee. Lee spends a lot of her time at the Poarch SAIL Center and her hobby is fishing.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born at home in Escambia County in Poarch on Aug. 26, 1947.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Ella and Savannah “Hawk” Daughtry.
Q: What did your parents do for a living?
A: They were farmers.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: There were seven of us.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I went to Poarch Consolidated School from first through sixth grade and then Escambia junior high through the ninth grade. I got my GED at the (Jefferson Davis Community) College over here.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: Yes with the (Poarch SAIL Center) seniors.
Q: Where have you traveled?
A: Canada, we went to Niagara Falls. I’ve been to Mexico and North and South Carolinas.
Q: Where was your favorite place you visited?
A: I liked all of them. Carthage, Mo. was beautiful.
Q: Where did you work?
A: I haven’t worked too much. I did work with Head Start and drove a school bus for Escambia County for a while. I worked at the Creek Bingo Palace for a while.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: Just here in Poarch.
Q: What do you like most about Atmore?
A: The friends. We are all kin. I like my church, Friendly Holiness Church, and my pastor Ray Ward, who is also my nephew.
Q: Did you ever marry?
A: No, I’m single.
Q: Do you have children?
A: No
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Coming to the SAIL Center and going to church. Fishing is my hobby.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I like pizza. I also like tomato gravy and rice.
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Eat right.
