Clara O’Farrell enjoys cooking, gardening

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 80-year-old Clara O'Farrell enjoys visiting the Atmore SAIL Center and visiting with friends.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Pineville, Fla. on March 23, 1928.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: My parents were the late Arthur Lee Hubbird and Myrtle Weekley Hubbird.
Q: What did your parents do for a living?
A: My parents worked on a farm all of their lives. They raised cattle.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: I have one brother who died when he was 35. His name was Joseph William Hubbird.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I attended school in Pineville, Fla. and also Walnut Hill, Fla.
Q: Where did you work?
A: I worked at Southland Telephone Company. I worked there from 1947- 1957 and then from 1983- 1992.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: I’ve lived in Pineville and Atmore.
Q: What do you like most about Atmore?
A: I like that it’s a small town, and the people are friendly.
Q: Did you ever marry?
A: Yes, to Buford O’Farrell, 81. We were married on March 23, 1949. He’s a farmer also. He had a grain elevator, pecan house and potato grater.
Q. How did you and your spouse meet?
A. We went to Walnut Hill, Fla. together, but didn’t date until later on. He would use the telephone and me and the others girl would make him guess who it was. He guessed me a few times, and we started talking on the phone.
Q: What advice can you give married couples for them to have a long, healthy marriage?
A: Keep a husband’s stomach filled.
Q. Do you have any children?
A.Yes, one son, Donald Allen O’Farrell.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: First Baptist Atmore
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Taking care of my husband, who is ill. I also try to exercise at the YMCA, and I try to work in the yard when I can.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I love to cook vegetable soup in the winter.
Q: Are you a good cook?
A: I hope so! My men think so.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: Home and Garden TV. We watch the Braves games a lot too and the Alabama games.
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Eat healthy food and exercise.
