The Northvew Chiefs fell 31-13 to the Blountstown Tigers Friday night in Blountstown, Fla.
The Chiefs (2-4, 1-1) came out of the gate firing scoring on their first drive and pushing down the field on their second drive before a holding call squashed their momentum.
Senior quarterback led the Chiefs in offense with 252 total yards. Jackson ran for 136 yards on 25 carries, while completing 9-of-18 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown but threw two interceptions.
Head coach Cody Keene said his team just did not play with any kind of motivation after the penalty. He added that lack of execution on several plays just pushed away the Chiefs’ confidence.
After leading 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Chiefs fell behind quickly in the second and trailed 21-7 at the half.
The Tigers came out in the second half and picked up where they had left off and added to their lead 28-7.
Keene said miscues kept pushing the Chiefs further away from the lead that the Tigers built.
In the fourth quarter, junior running back Shakel Holmes scrambled into the end zone to make the score 28-13.
Holmes ran the ball eight times for 40 yards on the night for the Chiefs.
The Tigers would score again before the game ended with the final coming to 31-13.
Jackson’s favorite target on the night was junior wide receiver Chris Sheets. Sheets caught five of the nine passes Jackson completed and finished with 63 yards.
Sophomore Dustin Yuhasz added another long catch, as he hauled in a 42-yard bomb from Jackson.
Defensively, the Chiefs were led by junior linebacker Austin Reid who recorded 13 tackles on the night.
Junior linebacker Shakel Holmes followed Reid with nine tackles, while junior defensive lineman Anthony Pierce notched eight tackles in the game.
Next week, the Chiefs return to Northview to host homecoming against district opponent Vernon High School.
Keene said the Chiefs are going back to the beginning on Monday and learning finish plays.
