(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 91-year-old Carl McGhee who was visiting the Poarch SAIL Center Monday morning.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Huxford on Feb. 9, 1917.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: My parents were Littles and Ellen McGhee.
Q.What did your parents do for a living?
A: My father worked for the lumber company, and my mother stayed at home and took care of the kids.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: I have six siblings, four brothers and two sisters.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I attended school in Huxford.
Q: Did you do a lot of traveling?
A: I’ve traveled some. I’ve been to Maryland and Michigan and some other places.
Q: Where did you work?
A: I worked at the paper mill for 34 years.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: I’ve lived in Huxford and now I live in Walnut Hill, Fla.
Q: What do you like most about this area?
A: It’s just a good town and a good place to live.
Q: Did you ever marry? If so, what is your spouse’s name?
A: My wife was Atrebee McGhee.
Q: How did you and your spouse meet?
A: We both lived in Huxford.
Q: Do you have any children?
A: I have six boys and one girl.
Q: Do you have any grandchildren?
A: Yes, I have 25 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Q:Where do you attend church?
A: I attend Beams of Light Holiness Church.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: I take care of my cows.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: I watch the news and enjoy all kinds of ball games that are on.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Most anything. It’s all good.
Q: Are you a good cook?
A: No, my son cooks for me ,and he is a good cook.
Q. Do you have any hobbies?
A: I like to fish.
Q: What advice would you give people on living a long life?
A: I don’t know about that. I think I’ve just been lucky.
