This Tuesday marks the 56th consecutive quadrennial U.S. Presidential election, and record numbers of voters are expected to cast ballots.
Escambia County Probate Judge Emilie Mims stated the increased voter registration in the past couple of months as well as a large number of absentee votes received by the Circuit Clerk are indicative of this.
Mims said election officials are working hard to ensure the voting process goes smoothly.
Due to the expected large turnout, the wait time for voting may increase as well.
On all U.S. ballots there will be five presidential nominees and their running mates. They are, as shown in order on the ballot, Barack Obama and Joe Biden (D), John McCain and Sarah Palin (R), Chuck Baldwin and Darrell L. Castle (Ind), Bob Barr and Wayne Root (Ind) and Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez (Ind).
On the ballot in the State of Alabama for District 4 are U.S. Senator, Vivian Davis Figures (D) and Jeff Sessions (R); for United States Representative First Congressional District, Jo Bonner (R); for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Deborah Bell Paseur (D) and Greg Shaw (R); for Court of Civil Appeals Judge, Kimberly Harrison Drake (D) and Bill Thompson (R), for Court of Criminal Appeals Judge, Place No. 1 Clyde Jones (D) and Beth Kellum (R); for Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Place 2, Aimee Cobb Smith (D) and Mary Windom (R); for President Public Service Commission, Lucy Baxley (D) and Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh (R); for Member State Board of Education District No. 1 Kenyon Berry (D) and Randy McKinney (R); for Member Escambia County Commission District No. 4, Brandon Smith (D) and Kevin McKinley (R), for Escambia County Tax Assessor Jim Hildreth (D) and for Escambia County Tax Collector Joy Wiggins (D).
Voters will also vote on Proposed Statewide Amendments 1-6.
Mims also gave information regarding the voting process.
Identification is required at the polls Tuesday.
