Three Escambia County Blue Devils football players have been picked up by the national recruiting Web site Rivals.com.
Sophomores Brett Wilkins and Rico Stallworth along with freshman Tyler Nero were chosen by Rivals after their performances against St. Paul’s on Oct. 24.
Wilkins, a sophomore offensive lineman, said being selected by Rivals as a top recruit is a great thing because of how rare it is.
The Rivals.com selection is not the first thing that has happened to Wilkins in terms of college recruitiment.
Wilkins said he has also attended almost every Auburn home game this season and sees the Tigers as his top choice for college.
Wilkins’ main job is to protect his quarterback, Stallworth.
Stallworth has been the Devils starting quarterback for two seasons and has compiled a record of 10-11.
Stallworth said he is happy that Rivals.com wants to put him on their Web site because of all the attention it gets. He added that he would like to get looked at by Tennessee, Michigan and Georgia for life after high school.
Both Wilkins and Stallworth have two more years to hone their skills and improve in aspects that colleges will be looking at.
Stallworth said he and his coaches have been looking at camps for him to attend after school ends.
Blue Devils head coach Kyle Davis said Stallworth and Wilkins being picked up by Rivals.com shows the caliber of their skills. He added that the ECHS coaching staff is going to help Stallworth and Wilkins in their recruitment and get them extra training.
Personnel with Rivals.com contacted the coaches at ECHS about Stallworth, Wilkins and Nero.
Davis said the scouts at the Web site saw them play at the St. Paul’s game and felt they had the talent to be on the site.
The profiles for the players are being built by the coaches and site masters at Rivals.com
Assistant coach and recruiting coordinator William Casaday said he and Davis are preparing all of the information that is needed by the site and should have it finished soon.
Tyler Nero was not available for comment.
