WALNUT HILL, Fla. - Velma Jean Smith, 74, of Walnut Hill, Fla. died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 in Pensacola, Fla.
She was a retired seamstress with Vanity Fair Mills, born in Elmore County on March 11, 1934 to the late Carnell “Bud” and Nellie Mae Maulder Powell.
Survivors include, her husband, James “Billy” Smith; one son, William Douglas Smith, both of Walnut Hill, Fla.; one daughter, Gail Godwin and husband, Paul of Bratt, Fla.; two brothers, James “Pete” Powell and wife Laura of Atmore and Robert “Bill” Powell of Stockton; two sisters, Gladys Qualls and husband, Thomas and Faye Gohagin and husband Carlos all of Atmore; three grandchildren, Shawn Smith and wife Sara, Chad Smith and Matthew Godwin and two great grandchildren, Alexis Smith and Braxton Peebles.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gary Weinborg officiating. Interment followed in Godwin cemetery. Active pallbearers were, Shawn Smith, Chad Smith, Kenny Rolin, Larry Gohagin and Matthew Godwin.
Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
