Lady Cougars dominate

Escambia Academy’s Lady Cougars dominated the Clarke Prep Lady Gators with a 49-29 victory Friday night in Canoe.
The Lady Cougars (2-3) dominated all four quarters of the game and never trailed.
Lady Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said he was happy with how his team performed against the Lady Gators.
Senior guard Alaina Arnold led the Lady Cougars with 13 points, and found support from all of her teammates.
All 11 Lady Cougars scored in the game that turned into a rout in the fourth quarter.
EA sophomore Taylor Helton scored seven points in the game, while senior Andrea Nall pushed her way around to score six points.
Gibson said it was great to see everyone score in the game. He added that if you have all players on your roster scoring and you don’t win something isn’t right.
Lady Cougars’ sophomores Amber Huskey and Kay Leigh Miller each scored five points in the win. Huskey and Miller also played strong defensively. Miller secured several late game steals that helped the Lady Cougars pull further ahead.
As the Lady Cougars pulled further ahead, they put more pressure on the Lady Gators by moving into their full court press.
Gibson said his team did a great job of creating turnovers and turning those turnovers into more points.
Seniors Malori McGhee and Sara Beth Davis each scored two points, while sophomore Samantha Lee added three.
The rest of the scoring for the Lady Cougars came from sophomores Rachel Fuller, Carlie Braughton and Kristen Matthews who all scored two points for EA.
Gibson said this game is where he wants his team to turn their season around. He added if they want to go far in this season they need to buckle down and get better every game.
The Lady Cougars next game is Monday against Meadowview in Canoe. Tip off is at 4 p.m.

Central (Fla.) 44
The Escambia Academy Lady Cougars fell to 1-3 after losing to the Central Lady Jaguars 44-33 Thursday night.
Sophomore Amber Huskey led the Lady Cougars with 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists.
Sophomore Kristen Matthews added 10 points for the Lady Cougars and posted one steal and on assist as well..
Senior Alaina Arnold scored five points and had two rebounds, one steal and one assist. Senior Andrea Nall had two points.
Sophomores KayLeigh Miller and Rachel Fuller each had two points. Sophomore Taylor Helton added one point.
