The Atmore Christian School Rams defeated the Escambia Academy Cougars 55-41 in what most thought would be a David vs. Goliath match up.
The Rams (8-2) were led by forward Allen Smith’s 24 points, while guard Randy Classen scored 13 points.
At halftime, the Cougars led 18-15, but after the break it was all Rams. The Rams came out in the third quarter and outscored the Cougars 18-6 to take the lead heading into the final quarter 33-24.
Rams head coach Tim Battles said he was proud of the way his team established itself early in the game.
Rams guard Stephen Yoder scored 10 points in the win. Forward Austin Heller, the team’s leading scorer on the season, played the game with an injury, but still managed to score six points. Forward Travis Pruitt added two points.
In the fourth quarter, the Rams hustled their way to a victory by outscoring the Cougars 22-17. When the final buzzer rang, the Rams had gained their biggest victory of the season.
Battles said the win really lets his team know where they stand after beating a school of EA’s caliber.
