After seven years as rector at Trinity Episcopal Church, the Rev. Sandra Mayer has resigned to accept a position at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Monroeville.
Mayer informed the church of her resignation this past Sunday, a resignation she said she did not seek, but was presented the opportunity and felt she should accept the call.
Mayer said St. John’s approached her and she did not look at it as something serious until she met with them.
Mayer said she looks forward to the new tasks that will be presented to her at St. John’s.
Mayer said, like at Trinity, she wants to get the congregation involved in outreach and work on individual spiritual growth and corporate spiritual growth.
Mayer said her time at Trinity has served her well.
While she looks upon her new position as an exciting journey she will greatly miss Atmore.
Mayer said the outreach programs Trinity has developed are expected to continue.
Lisa Reynolds is a member of Trinity and also considers Mayer to be a dear friend.
Reynolds said the move is something the church understands.
As for Mayer’s replacement, Reynolds said she expects the church leaders will begin looking immediately.
Reynolds said she finds comfort in knowing Mayer is only going a short distance away.
Mayer’s last sermon at Trinity will be on Jan. 18 and she will take over full time at St. John’s on Jan. 25.
