Nominations for the 2008 Atmore Citizen of the Year are due Friday, Jan. 23
Citizen of the Year began in 1978 and is sponsored by the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber Executive Director Sheryl Vickery said there are no set requirements for who is nominated, but the award is designed to recognize outstanding achievements and/ or contributions to the community.
Vickery said this is the community’s chance to give recognition to those people who might not otherwise be recognized.
Cindy Lee, the new chamber president, said it is also an opportunity to feature Atmore.
Lee added that nominees should be active members of the community.
Vickery said the honor is important to both the city and the citizens.
The Citizen of the Year selection committee is composed of the outgoing Chamber president, Allen Walston, the incoming Chamber president, Lee, two people appointed to serve by the incoming president and one person who has received the award in the past. Selection is based on the content of the nominations, as well as the knowledge committee members have of the nominee.
