Road resurfacing up and down Hwy. 31 in Escambia County will soon be completed, according to Matt Ericksen, construction engineer for the Alabama Department of Transportation.
The construction has been ongoing for two months spanning throughout Escambia County, and has caused much frustration for drivers as the work has caused numerous traffic delays.
Ericksen said that because it is a state route, maintenance of it is left to them and ALADOT had noticed the road was in “dire need of resurfacing.”
As for why the middle lane was converted into a turning lane, Ericksen said it was a safety issue.
Ericksen said paving is expected to finish this week on the main road and be completed in the next couple of months on driveways and side streets.
