Lady Blue Devils pick up area win No. 2

Escambia County’s Lady Blue Devils seniors paced the team in its 50-41 victory over the Gulf Shores Lady Dolphins Friday night.
The Lady Blue Devils (13-6, 2-2) were led by two seniors who scored double digits in the win.
Senior Latesha Lee led the Lady Blue Devils with 12 points, while recording five rebounds, two steals and two assists.
In the first quarter, the Lady Blue Devils outscored Gulf Shores 13-2 and continued their domination the rest of the half.
ECHS took their nine-point lead and expanded on it by scoring 12 points in the second quarter and only allowed Gulf Shores to score 11 as the halftime buzzer rang.
Lady Blue Devils head coach Ray Greer said his team’s performance against Gulf Shores was strong defensively.
After halftime, the Lady Dolphins fought back for one quarter, but fell short in the final period.
In the third quarter, Gulf Shores plastered the Lady Blue Devils for 19 points and cut the ECHS lead to four points.
The Lady Blue Devils finished off the win in the fourth quarter by scoring 14 points and only allowing Gulf Shores to pick up nine.
Greer said the win really gives his team confidence heading into some tough area games.
Lady Blue Devils senior forward Courtney English chipped in 11 points in the win. English also posted 14 rebounds, four steals, two assists and one block.
Junior forward Jasmine Tolbert added 11 points and two rebounds for the Lady Blue Devils.
The Lady Blue Devils next game is Thursday at home against Spanish Fort. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
