All eyes were glued to televisions and computer screens across the nation Tuesday as the inauguration of America’s first African-American president was broadcast on every major network.
An estimated 2 million Americans of all races and party affiliations converged on Washington, D.C. to witness the historic event, while millions tuned in. The highly anticipated swearing in of our nation’s 44th president was sure to have been the most watched event in our nation’s history since the World Trade Centers came crashing down in New York City in 2001.
Despite what many may believe, it is time for a change in Washington, and that change came on many levels Tuesday when Barack Obama was sworn into office, a day following the holiday honoring Civil Rights pioneer Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.
As some men and women who are much wiser than me have expressed, it is OK to agree to disagree, but when there is no healthy discussion to resolve issues, it is only time before bad comes of it. For years now, our lawmakers have backpedaled creating the economic mess we are currently dealing with.
Is Barack Obama the change America needs? Only time will tell.
Many people have expressed that President Obama has a huge task ahead of him, which is a no-brainer.
Do you honestly believe he doesn’t know this? He is fully aware that the weight of the nation lies on his shoulders, and that if he fails, the nation could literally crumble from around him.
As former President John F. Kennedy once said, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”
So embrace this historic change, and pray for our nation’s new Commander in Chief.
