Relief came in the form of a $10,000 check for the Atmore Area YMCA Monday morning by way of a donation from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Endowment Committee.
The donation was made by the Committee after a majority vote approved the donation.
Public Relations Tribal Liaison Sharon Delmar said the tribal committee was approached by the Atmore Area YMCA President.
The donation was requested because of the funding problems the YMCA in Atmore may soon face.
Walston said he approached the Committee because the support of the Tribe could be beneficial to the survival of the Y.
Several upgrades are needed for the YMCA’s building including a new room.
Tammy Graham, executive director at the Atmore Area YMCA, said this money along with the grant received from the W.T. Neal Trust are going to help make those renovations happen.
