National signing day took place more than a month ago, but recruits are still being sought after and looking to sign with schools all over the country and two of those senior athletes are in Atmore.
Escambia County seniors Eric Coley and Michael Thomas are each being recruited by schools for their talents in football and baseball at ECHS.
Coley is the starting catcher for the Blue Devils baseball team and is an outgoing starting linebacker for the football team. He is being pursued by Huntingdon and Birmingham-Southern for his skills on the gridiron. Faulkner State is pursuing Coley for his skills behind the plate and in the batters box.
Thomas is currently a ECHS starting pitcher and former starting running back and quarterback for the Blue Devils football team. He is being looked at by Kahoma Junior College and East-Central Junior College for his talents as a quarterback.
Both are leaders on the field, and each brings a passion to the sports they play.
ECHS athletic director and head football coach Kyle Davis said he is not surprised that the schools are going after two of his top athletes.
Coley not only boasts his athleticism but also his knowledge in the classroom.
Davis said that these schools that are looking at the hard-nosed linebacker really love what they see from him in a classroom. He added that Coley puts forth effort in everything he does.
Davis also said that on the field Coley never gives up and is always near the play.
Thomas’ abilities on the field have earned him the praise of his coaches, teammates and the schools pursing him.
Davis said his athleticism and versatility make him a must have for some teams.
