Scottie O’neil Smith

MEXIA - Mr. Scottie O’neil Smith, 49, died March 1, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Smith, a lifelong resident of Monroe County, lived in Mexia. He was a member of Mexia Baptist Church and as a child attended Little River Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Monroe Academy and Auburn University. Mr. Smith was a registered forester. He was a member of the Monroe Academy Board of Directors and Vice President with the Athletic Club and he was also a Pee Wee football coach. He was a member of the Alabama Cattleman’s Association. Mr. Smith served as president of the Babe Ruth Baseball league for several years.
Survivors include, his wife, Lyn Byrd Smith of Mexia; two sons, Forrest Smith and Graham Smith, both of Mexia; parents, O’neil Smith and Dorothy Harris Smith of Mineola and two brothers, Doug Smith of Mineola and Don Smith of Frisco City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Mexia Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne McMillan and the Rev. Steve Dunn officiating.
