The Blue Devils of Escambia County pulled the revenge card on the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles last Friday evening when they shutout the visiting team 2-0 at Tom Byrne Park.
The Blue Devils (4-8,0-0) pulled off the win with offense from Michael Thomas and Marshall Rolin and sharp pitching from Haden McGill.
Rolin led the Blue Devils going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored, but it was Thomas’ two base hits that led to Rolin crossing the plate twice. Thomas went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI.
McGill pitched a complete game with seven innings allowing three hits, walking three batters, but struck out six Blue Eagles to help keep them off the base path.
Blue Devils head coach David Hill said his players all gave a great effort in scoring runs and keeping their opponent off the scoreboard.
The Blue Devils started the game strong in the bottom of the first with Rolin and Thomas working together to put their first run up on the board.
ECHS shut Neal down throughout the game, and they added some security in the fourth inning when the Rolin-Thomas connection hooked up again and Thomas knocked in his teammate.
Hill said it was a great game by his team, and added he was happy to get a much-needed win.

Escambia County’s Lady Blue Devils suffered their second loss of the season last Friday in a 12-2 loss to the Robertsdale Lady Golden Bears at Tom Byrne Park.
The Lady Blue Devils (4-2, 0-1) had trouble handling Robertsdale in their match up giving up four runs in the first inning, which opened up the gates for more runs later in the game.
Lady Blue Devils head coach William Casaday said Robertsdale was a quality opponent, and that he think this the best his team has played.
Ashleigh Taylor and Jasmine Tolbert were the two Lady Blue Devils to reach base. Taylor and Tolbert each went 1-for-2 with a run scored. They were knocked in by Tameka North’s double in the bottom of the fifth inning.
