Cougars down Meadowview 7-2

Escambia Academy crushed the Meadowview Trojans 7-2 behind Jeff Price’s pitching and Keaton Maher’s offense on Tuesday in Selma.
The Cougars (2-5, 2-0) allowed the only two Trojans runs in the first inning but did not take the lead until the fourth inning.
Price (2-1) led the team defensively pitching seven innings, striking out 16 and only allowing four hits in the win.
Offensively, the Cougars struggled in the first and second innings with Jarret Hadley and Keaton Maher scoring runs to tie the Trojans at two. Hadley hit 1-for-4 in the game with a single and two runs scored. Maher went 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles and three runs scored.
In the fourth inning, the Cougars broke open and added four more runs with Maher, Braxton Chastang, Hadley and Price all crossing the plate to take the lead 6-2. Maher, Hadley and Price reached the base on singles, while Chastang reached on a walk. Price went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored. Chastang was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run.
Maher scored the final Cougar run in the fifth inning when Jon Dean ripped a double into play. Dean finished the game 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

The Escambia Cougars fell to the Central Jaguars 11-5 on Monday in Jay, Fla.
The Cougars (1-4, 1-0) struggled to keep up with the Jaguars as they allowed the home team to score all 11 of their runs in the first and second inning.
Cougars pitcher Jon Dean started the game and and gave up nine runs on six hits and four walks, while only striking out one.
Jon Dean was replaced in the second inning by his brother James Dean who pitched the next five innings for the Cougars. James Dean gave up two runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out six Jaguars batters.
The Cougars were paced offensively by Jeff Price who led the team with 1-for-4 performance and two runs scored.
In the fifth inning, the Cougars put up a small fight scoring four runs with Jon Dean, Jarrett Hadley, Jeff Price and Keaton Maher crossing the plate. Jon Dean went 0-for-3 in the game with a run scored, while Hadley went 0-for-2 with two walks and one run scored. Maher hit 1-for-3 in the game and crossed the plate once.
Other Cougars to record hits in the game included Braxton Chastang (1-for-2) and Nick Mills (2-for-3).
