Atmore’s “celebrities” will be taking on new duties March 16 as they become waiters and waitresses at David’s Catfish House for First National Bank &Trust’s Relay for Life Team event Celebrity Waiters.
The St. Patrick’s Day-themed event will feature 15 tables waited on by well-known figures from the community. Seats for the event were sold for $30 each and patrons will be served sides cooked by David’s Catfish and rib-eye steaks from David’s cooked by the highly awarded barbecue team the Butt Burners, made up of John and Kathy Swift.
FNB&T president Shep Marsh is participating in the event this year as a server, his second time in the role.
Marsh said besides the light-hearted take on the event, it is important to the community of Atmore and to the community of people affected by cancer. Marsh himself is part of the latter community, having had family members and friends affected by it and just last year his wife, Jan, was diagnosed with cancer.
FNB&T employee Becky Ganey is an organizer of the event and a cancer survivor and said Relay for Life events holds a special meaning to her.
The main fundraising part of the event comes from tips from the patrons.
Godwin expressed a special appreciation to the event’s sponsors, Earle’s Jewelry, Petals and Parties, Johnson Ford, Gregg’s Salon, Wind Creek Casino and Hotel and the Audio Plus. Each sponsor has donated a door prize, which are: a set of four Tervis tumblers, two five-inch ivy topiaries, two free oil changes, hair care products), four buffet tickets and a 42-inch high definition flat screen TV, respectively.
She also wished to give a special thank you to David’s Catfish for providing the facilities and supplying the food at a discounted price.
Godwin said there will be ongoing karaoke during the event and encouraged patrons to bribe their waiters with bigger tips if they would sing.
Celebrity waiters for the event are Audrey Moon, Emilie Mims, Teresa Martin /Sharon Brown, Peggie Byrd, Lisa Swift, Robert Hudson, Kyle Davis, Adam Prestridge, Sheryl Vickery, Tray Smith, Brandon Smith, Ryan Carter, Judd Coley, Shep Marsh and Caleb Dortch/Nick Drew, with Sharon Smith hosting.
Tickets for the event are sold out.
