A broad smile spread across the face of Greg Albritton as he addressed the small crowd gathered at his election night party at The Paper Station in Atmore.
The special election will fill the remaining term of late state Sen. Pat Lindsey, who died of a heart attack earlier this year.
Albritton took seven of the eight counties, beating opponents Judy M. Belk of Citronelle and Danny B. Joyner of Brewton.
Albritton won Escambia County with 936 votes to Joyner’s 410 votes and Belk’s 175 votes.
Just 7 percent of registered voters in Escambia County went to the polls Tuesday.
Mims said no problems were reported at any of the polling places throughout the county.
Albritton said he was pleased with how the race was run.
Albritton said he has already begun looking ahead to the June 2 general election against Keahey.
Albritton is a real estate appraiser, attorney and timber farmer and former state representative from Evergreen.
Albritton also won Baldwin, Clarke, Conecuh, Choctaw, Monroe and Washington counties, with Belk winning Mobile County.
