Some people seem to have split personalities, in different aspects of their lives. One minute they can be smart and the next they are a star athlete.
Escambia County senior Eric Coley is one of those people that is different depending on what he is doing.
With just a few weeks left in his high school career, Coley has taken the last four years to mold himself into one of the most active students at ECHS.
The senior baseball and football star said he is involved in several school clubs.
When not attending one of his club meetings, Coley is usually at practice or playing in a game for a Blue Devils athletic team.
This is when Coley turns into another person. He becomes a competitor and wants nothing more than to get the better of his opponent.
The last two falls have seen Coley lead the Blue Devils football team in tackles. He notched 93 in 2007 and 86 last fall.
He said that his favorite thing about playing football is just the toughness it requires.
Even though he is a leader for the football team and one of the team’s strongest players, Coley tends to lean more towards baseball.
He said baseball is just something that he loves to do and has been playing it since he was a child.
When he takes the field for a game, Coley is one of the most motivated and vocal players for his team.
He said that the drive he has when he is playing in a game comes from knowing that not everyone can do what he does.
With that inspiration comes strong performances for the two-sport athlete.
Coley said he remembers his best performances of this year well.
Aside from the glory he has on the gridiron or a baseball diamond, Coley is another person inside the classrooms at ECHS.
He has one of the highest grade point averages in the school and finds joy in his government and math classes.
Coley said that those are his favorite subjects because of how he takes in the subject matter.
With strong academic and athletic skills as well as a list of extracurricular activities, the Blue Devil should have a great chance to accomplish his goals.
He said that he wants to further his education after high school and possibly play athletics. He added that he knows what he wants to major in and pursue even more goals.
Outside of school and sports, Coley enjoys music, movies and his job.
His interest in music varies, while his taste in movies includes Chris Tucker and two certain movies.
He said that he likes Tucker for his comedy, but his favorite movies do not have the star in them.
If he is not enjoying music or movies, Coley works for McDonalds in Atmore.
He said he chose to get a job so he could learn how to support himself.
As his high school career is coming to a close, Coley is able to look back at his memories at ECHS and one sticks out.
He said that his best memory came at Herbert Barnes Stadium in his junior year.
