The Greater Escambia Council for the Arts is trying something new with its latest production, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”
As they usually do, the production will be presented two nights each in both Atmore and Brewton, but with a different cast both nights in each city, one comprised of youth and one of adults.
Johnson said because of the subject of the play it works best to not have varying ages in the cast.
Johnson said there is a catch to this rivalry, in that the cast that has the highest attendance will get to perform in another show the following week. This also applies to the city that has the highest attendance.
Johnson said GECA chose this play to perform because of its lightheartedness.
The performance plays out as a day in the life of Charlie Brown, the “Peanuts” comic strip star created by Charles Schulz, in two acts.
The first performance of the play begins at 7 p.m. tomorrow in Atmore at Grace Fellowship with the youth cast and again at 7 p.m. Friday with the adult cast. The youth cast performs again at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Brewton at The Ritz with the adult cast performing there at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The youth cast is comprised of: Stephen Billy as Charlie Brown, Ellen Johnson as Lucy, Perry Jones as Shroeder, Allen Rigby as Linus, Miranda Andrews as Sally, Joseph Billy as Snoopy, Allison Dixon as Peppermint Patty, Ashley Barlow as Marcy, Kate Sherrill as Violet, Katelyn Wood as Frieda, Nicholas Wood as Pig Pen, and Anna-Grace Janes as Woodstock.
The adult cast is comprised of Mike McMorris as Charlie Brown, Sharon Poulsen as Lucy, John Mascaro as Shroeder, Phil Johnson as Linus, Haley Pearson as Sally, Pam Dees as Snoopy, Wanetta McGinty as Peppermint Patty and Hanna Mascaro as Woodstock.
Tickets for the shows are $8 and can be bought from any of the cast members. Contact Phil Johnson at 538-7978 for further information or visit GECA’s Web site at www.gecarts.com.
