Lady Devil now Saint

An Escambia County lady basketball player will soon turn into a saint as senior Lady Blue Devil Courtney English will suit up next season as a Lady Saint for Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia.
English, who graduates in just a few weeks and starred for the Lady Blue Devils, signed her Letter of Intent to play for the Lady Saints on Tuesday afternoon in the Escambia County High School library.
During the 2008-09 season, the Lady Blue Devils’ leader averaged 10.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 2.2 assists and 1.4 blocks. She was the team leader in rebounds and steals.
English said that she is happy that she has the opportunity to move on to the next level.
English is moving up to the Lady Saints who compete in the Alabama Community College Conference, which is composed of community colleges around the state.
The Lady Saints finished the 2008-09 season with a 9-22 overall record going 7-7 in their conference.
Head coach Ricky Knight leads the Lady Saints and has been watching English for the last few years.
He said he noticed her when he was recruiting another Lady Blue Devil.
English did some recruiting of her own before deciding to sign with the Lady Saints.
She said she spoke to her friends and got their opinion of the school and their coach.
Next season when English takes the floor, she will be looked to for contribution as a freshman.
Knight said the he knows where he will play Courtney because of her athletic talents. He added that English has the ability to go further than the Lady Saints.
English said that her goal is to go beyond LBWCC and move up to a four-year university.
English’s head coach, Ray Greer, said he is excited that she was able to sign on and move ahead her in education and athletic career.
