With the beginning of summer, will be the beginning of a new era for Buy-Rite Drugs co-owner Danny Cottrell and his staff.
Cottrell announced Tuesday that the new 2,600-square foot pharmacy located at the corner of Cloverdale Road and Medical Park Drive will open soon after the Memorial Day holiday.
Despite several weeks of inclement weather, Cottrell said he is pleased it the timeframe the construction has taken from site preparation to construction.
Cottrell said once the new building is complete, construction costs would top out near $420,000. He added that the contractor, Maxwell Construction, has subbed out most of the work to businesses in Atmore.
The new Buy-Rite Drugs location will feature two drive-thru windows, which the current facility does not have and additional parking. He said these two features could prompt him to hire more employees, which he does not plan on doing until after opening.
Once the keys are handed over Cottrell, it will take several weeks for crews to move in equipment, fixtures and merchandise, but he said the current Buy-Rite Drugs location will continue daily operations as usual.
In addition to building costs, Cottrell and his partners will incur some start-up costs, but he said they would be “minimal” since a store is currently operational.
Cottrell said the design is the same as the store in Ozark, except will have a shingled roof instead of a metal one.
Buy-Rite Drugs has 10 locations spanning throughout South Alabama, Florida and South Georgia. They have been serving the Atmore area since July of 2007.
