Former special education teacher Larry Eugene Tindell is facing new charges following a grand jury session earlier this month.
Tindell, 48, of Brewton, was indicted by the grand jury with seven counts of possession of child pornography; two counts of second-degree promoting prostitution; two counts of furnishing drugs to a minor; and one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Tindell has been in jail since his arrest Feb. 10 on charges of illegal possession and illegal distribution of a controlled substance. Following a search of his property that day, he was charged with three counts of possession of child pornography.
Bond on the new charges in the indictment was set at $400,000.
During a March bond reduction hearing on the earlier charges, prosecutors contended that Tindell admitted giving a 19-year-old man drugs during an undercover operation. They also said that he admitted to investigators to giving another man $20 to watch the man perform a sexual act on himself.
Investigators testified that two young men told them Tindell gave them drugs.
Investigators also testified in the March hearing that they found photos — three of which they determined at the scene were child pornography — as well as DVDs and VHS tapes at Tindell’s home.
The photos involved what appeared to be nude teenage boys performing sexual acts on each other, investigators testified.
The new indictments allege that Tindell:
Tindell has retired from his position as a special education teacher at W.S. Neal High School.
One of the young men involved in the case was a student at the school, investigators testified, but they didnot know whether he was a student of Tindell’s.
