After taking a month-long hiatus, an arsonist in Atmore has resumed setting fires.
The two latest fires had the same characteristics of the approximately nine others, which began occurring at the beginning of this year and continued until March when they temporarily stopped.
The first fire occurred on Liberty Street and the next on Harris Street. Both were abandoned structures and were destroyed by the fires.
State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk confirmed that his office is working with local authorities into the investigation of the other arson fires earlier this year.
Paulk said a motive for arson is not always apparent and it is hard to give an explanation of why the arsonist has started setting fires again.
Paulk added that the community needs to be aware of the situation so that they can assist if possible.
If anyone has any information regarding the fires contact the Atmore Fire Department at 368-9156, the Atmore Police Department at 368-9141, the Alabama Arson hotline at 1-800-654-0775 or report it on their Web site at
