Poarch defeated the Atmore Rotary Club Tigers 4-1 on Monday night in a match up of Cal Ripken Major opponents.
Poarch handed the Tigers their second straight loss, while picking up their second straight victory.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Poarch took a 2-0 lead with Xan McGhee and Tristan Montgomery crossing the plate. McGhee was hitless in the game with two walks, while Montgomery was 1-for-2 with a single and a run scored.
The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Coby Smith reached base after ripping a double into play. Smith scored after Maleek Salter hit a single. Smith was 1-for-2 in the loss with Salter also going 1-for-2.
Poarch added to their lead in the final inning scoring two runs with Gage White and Dalton Walker each scoring runs. White was 1-for-3 in the win, while Walker was hitless reaching base on an error.
Other Poarch players to record hits included Nik Shivers (1-for-1) and Trey McGhee (1-for-3).
Warriors 4
Cardinals 2
The United Bank Warriors slipped past the Atmore Lions Club Cardinals 4-2 in Monday night Cal Ripken Major action at Tom Byrne Park.
The Cardinals struck first in the game scoring two runs in the first inning. Jon Jon Griffis reached base on a walk and was knocked home by Trey Weekes’ home run to take a 2-0 lead. Griffis was 1-for-2 in the loss, while Weekes was 1-for-2.
That lead would stand until the third inning when the Warriors tied the game at two with Aaron McDonald and Nate Smith making it around the base path. McDonald was 2-for-3 for the Warriors and Smith was 2-for-3 with two singles and reached base on an error.
The Warriors took the lead in the top of the fourth with Tyson Phillips and Gavin Grant crossing the plate. Phillips and Grant scored of a hit by Brodie Amos that resulted in an error. Phillips, Grant and Amos were all hitless in the game with Phillips and Grant scoring the winning runs.
Other Warriors to notch hits were Dalton Daniels (1-for-3), Billy Powell (1-for-3), Hunter Sherouse (1-for-3) and Tanner Plant (1-for-1). The only other Cardinal to record hits was Nate Lambeth (2-for-2).
Poarch 7
Rangers 4
Poarch held off the Atmore VFW Rangers 7-4 during Saturday’s opening day festivities for the Cal Ripken Major teams.
The Rangers took the lead 2-0 in the first inning with Arri Torrez and Perry Metzler scoring runs. Torrez was 0-for-2 in the game, while Metzler was 1-for-3 with a single.
Poarch grabbed the lead in their half of the first with Tristan Montgomery, Tadd Wall, Gage White, Dalton Walker and Taylor McGhee crossing the plate. Montgomery hit 1-for-3 in the game with White (2-for-3) and McGhee (1-for-2) also recording hits. Wall and Walker were both hitless in the win.
The Rangers tried to mount a comeback scoring runs in the fourth and fifth innings with Eric Williams and Wesley Hosletter making it around the bases. Williams was 1-for-3 at the plate, and Hosletter was hitless with a walk.
Poarch added to their lead scoring in the third and fourth innings with McGhee and Dakota Barlow scoring. Barlow was 1-for-3 in the game and ripped a triple.
Other Poarch players to record hits were Nik Shivers (2-for-3) and Sme Ellstad (1-for-2).
Warriors 16
Athletics 1
The United Bank Warriors crushed the FNB&T Athletics 16-1 on opening day of Cal Ripken Baseball at Tom Byrne Park.
The Warriors started the game strong scoring five runs with Brodie Amos, Aaron McDonald, Nate Smith and Hunter Sherouse all crossing the plate. Amos hit 3-for-4 in the game with two run scored, while McDonald was 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored. Smith was also 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Daniels was hitless with four runs scored. Sherouse was a perfect 1-for-1 with one run scored.
The Warriors added to their lead in the final three innings scoring one in the third, three in the fourth and seven in the fifth inning.
The Athletics one run came from Efrem Abrams in the third inning. Abrams was hiltess in the loss.
Other Warriors to record hits or score runs were Justin Johnson (1-for-1, HR), Blake Allen (one run) and Tyson Phillips (one run).
Cardinals 4
Tigers 3
The Atmore Lions Club Cardinals squeaked past the Atmore Rotary Club Tigers 4-3 on Saturday to open up the festivities for Cal Ripken Major baseball action.
The Cardinals took the lead 3-0 in the first inning with Jon Jon Griffis, Nate Lambeth and Dalton Simmons scoring runs. Lambeth and Simmons combined to hit 3-for-5 in the win, while Griffis was hitless with a walk.
The Tiger struck back in the first inning with a run scored as Coby Smithi reached base on an error and scored after stealing second and third. Smith was 1-for-3 in the loss with two runs scored.
The Cardinals scored their final run in the second inning with D. Daily scoring. Daily was hitless in the win.
Smith and Devonte Stevens sscored the Tigers final runs in the fourth inning. Stevens was hitless in the loss.
Other Tigers to record hits were Tanner Smith (1-for-2).
