The driver of an 18-wheeler died after his truck veered off a bridge on Interstate 65 north near mile marker 64 and burst into flames just before 11 a.m. Monday morning.
According to emergency personnel on the scene, it is not known at this time the cause of the accident, but it is believed that he either fell asleep or a tire blew out.
After the truck veered off the roadway, it traveled down an embankment where it caught fire, killing the driver.
The trucks license plate was from Texas, but the name of the driver has not been released.
A second 18-wheeler was hit with debris, but the driver was not injured.
Traffic from I-65 is currently being diverted into Atmore along Hwy. 21 and down Highway 31 to Hwy. 113 back to Interstate 65, which has been causing traffic congestion.
