Arthur Mothershed, Property Manager of the Wind Creek Casino &Hotel has agreed to publicly shave his head at 2 p.m. on May 21 during an Employee Appreciation Picnic, to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The event is the culmination of several fundraising activities the casino has sponsored in recent weeks to raise money for the Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s nationwide fundraising event.
To date, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians’ gaming businesses, which includes the new Wind Creek Casino &Hotel in Atmore, Riverside Casino in Wetumpka and Tallapoosa Casino in Montgomery, have raised several thousand dollars for the American Cancer Society through a variety of means.
Employees at Wind Creek held bake sales and raffles for free PTO to benefit the charity and donated items to fill gift bags for cancer survivors. They sold T-shirts to team members that can be worn on Mondays in May. Upcoming events include barbeque plates, car washes, raffles for a 19-inch television and BBQ Grill. Proceeds from a July 3 performance of “Az Izz” at the Sound will be donated to the Wind Creek team. Wind Creek employees are also sponsoring and volunteering to man a dunking booth at the May 21 Employee Appreciation Picnic.
Riverside’s professional Chef Paul donated his culinary expertise for a “dinner for four at home” that was won by a lucky bidder at a live auction in Wetumpka. Other Riverside employees organized a two-day yard sale in April as well as a bake sale and car wash. Three managers agreed to have their heads shaved April 23 as a result of reaching their goals.
In Tallapoosa, employees held a bake sale. They also raffled off PTO and much-coveted parking space.
Jay Dorris, President of PCI Gaming proudly noted, “Our people are always eager to help others. They have taken the initiative to work for the American Cancer Society in some really creative ways. I am proud of all their efforts and I hope they serve as an inspiration to others.”
