SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. – Rosetta Salter was born on July 4, 1914 in Camden. She was the fourth of nine siblings born to Oceola McNeal, all of whom preceded her in death. Oceola moved her family from Camden to Atmore. There she met and married Mack K. Salter, Sr. To this union seven children were born.
Rosetta was a “stay at home” mother who loved, nurtured and cared for her family. She was a woman of wisdom and passed that wisdom along to her children and grandchildren. She loved life, fishing and beautiful hats. She would often be found on the “bridge” fishing in Pensacola with her husband and children.
As a long time resident of Atmore for more than seventy years, Rosetta was a pillar of her community who helped those in the community and provided home care for young, working mothers.
Upon the death of her husband Mack K. Salter, she moved to Santa Barbara, Calif. where she resided for 15 years. Rosetta was baptized in the Jehovah’s Witness faith in Sept. 8, 2007. In the congregation she was fondly known as “Mom.”
Rosetta passed away at her home on the evening of May 18, 2009. To mourn her passing, she leaves Milvie L. Gore (Fred) Santa Barbara, Cal., Rose L. Nobles, Atlanta, Ga., Arlecia Salter, Santa Barbara, Cal., William H. Salter (Opal), Nashville, Tenn., Mack K. Salter, Jr. (Carolyn) Atmore, Earnestine White (Frank) Redlands, Cal., Alice M. Hall (Frank) Santa Barbara, Cal., Shirlean Morten, Santa Barbara, Cal. and Beverly Mendenhall, Camden. One daughter, Celestine Moore, preceded her in death. Also, to mourn her passing, she leaves 26 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 4 great, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces , nephews and other relatives.
Rosetta’s family and friends loved her very much and she will be sorely missed. The Salter family would like to thank the many family members and friends who extended kindness to us during this time of bereavement.
