Putting up the kind of numbers to be named Player of the Year is a tough thing to do, but maintaining those types of stats to be named Player of the Year two years in a row is even harder.
Escambia County senior Latesha Lee has managed to accomplish the feat to be named the 2009 Atmore Advance Softball Player of the Year.
Lee secured the honor by holding a whopping .400 batting average, belting five home runs, knocking in 40 runs and stealing 20 bases throughout the season.
The senior said she was excited about being named to the All-Area team as well as being the Player of the Year. She added it surprised her because the beginning of the season was tough for her.
To get out of the slump, Lee said she worked non-stop to improve her game. She added she had some special help to get her talents back on track.
All of the hard work that Lee put into making herself better is something that made her a leader for the Lady Blue Devils.
Her head coach is quick to note how hard she works to make sure she is at her best all of the time.
Lady Blue Devils coach William Casaday said he hates that his star player is graduating this year.
One of the strongest aspects that Lee has is her enthusiasm for softball.
She said that her favorite thing about softball is simply playing , and added it is something that makes her who she is.
Leaving Escambia County High School is something that Lee knows she has to do, but she said she will miss playing softball as a Lady Blue Devil.
With graduation comes the next step for Lee, who said she plans to go to college and pursue a job in the medical field.
Lee said she wants to go to college close to Atmore and continue her athletic career as well.
Lee completed her high school success in sports and school with a diploma Friday.
