Tigers edge Rangers 6-5

Tanner Smith struck out 13 batters out of the 20 he faced Thursday night and led the Atmore Rotary Club Tigers to a 6-5 win over the Atmore VFW Rangers in a battle of Cal Ripken Major League teams at Tom Byrne Park.
Smith started on the mound for the Tigers and struck out the side to get the game going.
The Tigers got on the board first with Tristan McAnally hitting a single and being knocked in by Coby Smith’s single.
The Rangers scored two runs in the second inning as Deandres McCarthy and Eric Williams both scooted around the bases to score. Those two runs would be all the Rangers got in the inning as Tanner Smith again struck out three batters.
Tanner Smith again held the Rangers at bay, while striking out there of the four batters he faced in the third inning.
In the bottom of the third, the Tigers pulled ahead 3-2 a s Tanner Smith hit a home run and Malik Salter scored on an error by the catcher.
The Tigers added to their lead in the fourth inning as McAnally and the Smith boys all scored runs to give their team a 6-2 lead.
Coby Smith entered the game in the sixth inning to relieve Tanner on the mound. Coby Smith gave up three runs, but the Tigers stopped the Rangers before any more damage could be done to get the win.
Warriors 14
Athletics 4
The United Bank Warriors put up a valiant offensive effort to rout the First National Bank &Trust Athletics 14-4 Thursday night in Cal Ripken Major League action at Tom Byrne Park.
The Athletics started the game with two quick runs as J.P. Sawyer and Scotty Lambert made their way around to home plate.
Brodie Amos and Aaron McDonald answered back for the Warriors in the bottom of the first as they scored to tie the game.
In the bottom of the second, the Warriors took control of the game as Amos, McDonald, Nate Smith, Dalton Daniels and Billy Powell all crossed the plate to take a 7-2 lead.
The Athletics added another run in the third scored to pull his team within four runs.
The run would not help though as Smith, Daniels, Powell and Hunter Sherouse scored runs to give the Warriors an overwhelming 11-3 lead heading into the fifth inning.
Kirk scored his second run of the game in the fifth inning to give his team its fourth and final run of the game.
In the final at-bat for the Warriors, Tre Lee, Chris Kilpatrick and Amos all scored to give the Warriors an important 10-run victory.
