Former Atmore resident Dave Dennis recently revealed he is considering a run for governor of Mississippi in 2011.
The news came by way of an interview Dennis had with the “Sun Herald” newspaper.
Dennis currently lives in Pass Christian, Miss., but was born in Monroeville and later moved to Atmore and finished high school at Escambia County High School, according to his sister, Anne Hetzel, human resources director at United Bank.
In the “Sun Herald,” Dennis said he was “very, very strongly considering” a run, but “no announcement was imminent.” He also said if running, it would be as a Republican.
Hetzel said she knew her brother had been contemplating the decision and would be very supportive of him if he chooses to do so.
Dennis is president of Specialty Contractors &Associates, Inc. of Gulfport, Miss., which is a commercial and industrial subcontractor.
His list of accomplishments is long and started early. In school at ECHS, he won the Challenger award given to outstanding Christian athletes.
One notable position he has held is as Chairman of the New Orleans Federal Reserve Board, which he served as for three full terms.
He currently serves as Chairman of Leadership Mississippi, is a member of the Executive Committees of both the Mississippi Economic Council and the Gulf Coast Business Council and is a member of the YMCA’s Coast Metro Board.
He has also been recognized by the Boy Scouts of America as a “Distinguished Citizen of the Year.”
He and his wife, Jane, are both graduates of Auburn University and have two children, Padrick and Katie.
