For children, summer is a time for fun and games and not for learning. For the children in the Atmore Area YMCA’s Summer Day Camp program one of their summer days was full of fun learning at the Exploreum in Mobile.
Tuesday, the chipmunks and warriors traveled down to Mobile via the YMCA’s bus to experience a field trip that features games geared towards learning.
Tammy Graham, executive director of the Atmore Area YMCA, said the trip was fun especially for first time visiters.
At the Exploreum, the children were able to visit the HandsOn Hall, MindsOn Hall, My BodyWorks and an IMAX movie.
In each exhibit, they participated in different types of experiments or games including ones that showed them how the human body works, how pulleys and a fulcrum worked as well as an interactive rollercoaster.
Graham said all of the exhibits had something that was unique and fun for all of the children to play with.
The day campers from the YMCA all had sgood experience at Exploreum, and some of them even had a favorite exhibit or event from the day.
Izaiah Bivins, a warrior with the summer camp, said he enjoyed learning new things at the Exploreum and going through the exhibits.
For Makayla Murphy, just participating in the exhibits made the field trip fun.
Murphy said she enjoyed all of the different things that she was able to do including the IMAX movie.
