For the second straight year, the Escambia Academy Cougars face the toughest schedule in AISA.
The Cougars finished last season 0-11 overall and 0-6 in Class AA Region 1, putting them in last place.
This season, the Cougars are taking on the same schedule, while flipping their home and away games.
This season the Cougars start with a visit to Sparta on Aug. 21 to begin the season.
Last season, EA lost to their rivals 35-0 to begin their winless campaign.
Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said he sees his team’s schedule as an uphill battle.
The Cougars’ three toughest opponents from last season should make the road a little rough.
In 2008, Patrician Academy, Bessemer Academy and Monroe Academy outscored the Cougars 141-34. This season those games could be tougher with each team returning players and bringing the Cougars to their home fields.
Gibson said that these three teams present the largest obstacle during the season.
Although the Cougars were winless last year, there is reason to be optimistic if you are a fan of their program.
Gibson said this season’s team looks to be in better shape with several new players taking the field.
