A storm moving through Atmore Monday morning brought with it rain, thunder and lightning and a terrible act of natural phenomena that kills more than tornadoes, hurricanes and winter storms, according to StrikeAlert.com.
A bolt of lighting struck Atmore resident Dawn Yoder, wife of Dr. Jon Yoder, yesterday during the storms, while she was performing a daily household chore.
Yoder was transferred by ambulance from Atmore Community Hospital to Springhill Hospital in Mobile. LifeFlight was not able to fly Yoder to the hospital due to the weather conditions.
In an interview Monday afternoon at 4 p.m., Dr. Jon Yoder said his wife was comatose due to the strike.
Yoder also said that his wife was taking out the garbage at the time the lightning hit her.
Yoder’s son, Robert, found her unconscious after the strike happened yesterday morning.
Robert Yoder said Tuesday that his mother’s condition had not changed for the better or worse.
The family is asking for prayers at this time.
