NWE softball team heading to state

After a strong run throught their district competition two weeks ago, the 12-year-old NWE Softball All-Stars made another trip to Destin over the weekend and defeated Chaires in two games to claim the Florida Sectional Championship.
With the win at sectionals the NWE All-Star softball team now advances to the state tournament, which takes place in southern Florida near Miami.

Chaires 0
Northwest Escambia’s 12-year-old All-Star softbal team demolished Chaires 10-0 to claim the Florida Sectional Championship Saturday in Destin.
Mallory Ryan led the way for the NWE All-Stars as she pitched a one-hitter not allowing any runs and sending down four Chaires batters down on strikes.
In the first inning, Northwest Escambia shutdown Chaires’ offense and then came out gunning with five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Madison Arrington, Darby Randolph, Ryan, Courtney Peebles and Kyndal Hall all crossed the plate for Northwest Escambia to give their team the lead.
The defense by the NWE All-Stars continued to put on a show by keeping Chaires scoreless, while the offense failed to score in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the third, Northwest Escambia added four runs to their total as Peebles, Addy Lee, Reagan Bell and Arrington all scored to put their team on top 9-0.
The game came to a screeching halt in the bottom of the fourth as the 10-run rule was applied after Hall reached base on a single and was eventually knocked in on a single by Lee.
With the win the NWE softball team now advances to the state tournament in southern Florida.

In their first game of the Florida Sectionals, the Northwest Escambia 12-year-old All-Stars took to the field against Chaires, a softball team from East of Tallahassee and squeaked out a 3-2 victory.
In the bottom of the first inning, Northwest Escambia jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Reagan Bell and Madison Arrington each crossed home plate.
Arrington helped Northwest Escambia add to their lead in the bottom of the third as she reached base on a triple and scored on a wild pitch to put her team up 3-0.
Defensively, the NWE All-Stars held Chaires at bay as the first 15 batters Mallory Ryan faced all went down.
After the third inning, the offense faced a stalemate with Chaires as no one scored and two players were stranded on base.
Northwest Escambia faced a scare in the sixth inning as Chaires scored two runs in their final at-bat.
